Delaware NWTF State Chapter Hosts Energy for Wildlife Shoot

EDGEFIELD, S.C. — Despite scorching temperatures, dozens gathered for a day celebrating conservation and busting clays at the Delaware NWTF State Chapter's annual Energy for Wildlife Shoot, sponsored by Asplundh, a vegetation management and utility services firm. Funds raised at the event go directly to the Delaware NWTF State Chapter’s Hunting Heritage Super Fund for conservation projects and outreach events.

More than 70 participants attended the event at Point at Pintail, a year-round sporting clays course. Delaware NWTF State Chapter President Charles Spray and Delaware State Board member Jerry Connelly were also in attendance to share the NWTF’s conservation mission and highlight the various projects the organization has supported across the First State.

“All attendees were given an NWTF membership, and the state chapter hopes to see them at future events,” Spray said.

The event featured raffles, a silent auction and of course some friendly competition on the sporting clays course. Winners were awarded Bass Pro Shops gift cards.

“It has always been my goal to get companies and industries involved in our efforts, and this is a great way to do that,” said Ray Smith, NWTF regional director. “This event is a great way for Asplundh to bring in their contractors and coworkers to foster a stronger sense of community. It provided them a space to have a fun networking day, while also spreading the word about who the NWTF is and what our mission is. At the same time, we’re raising money for conservation.”

Funds raised at the event will contribute to the Delaware NWTF State Chapter’s Hunting Heritage Super Fund, a funding model where NWTF volunteers raise money at banquets and other types of fundraisers and then allocate a significant portion of those funds back into meaningful conservation and outreach projects in their respective states and beyond.

Asplundh may sponsor another shooting event again in the fall.

“We are proud to sponsor the NWTF’s Energy for Wildlife shoot,” said Eric Whalen, Asplundh vice president of Northeast operations. “Our customers and employees always enjoy the event and look forward to it every year. This year was no exception. We had a terrific time. It’s great to support an organization that values the environment in which we work and live. We support the important work of the NWTF. It raises money for the conservation of wild turkeys and other upland game animals, as well as the natural habitats in Delaware and the Delmarva Peninsula where they live.”
