After the ranking process, proposals were approved by the NWTF Alabama Board of Directors. The board budgeted $184,386 for conservation projects, $60,000 for wild turkey research, $60,000 for the NWTF's Habitat for the Hatch Initiative and $84,632 for hunting heritage projects, including education and outreach events, chapter scholarships and more.
"NWTF staff and our conservation partners are thankful for the talented volunteers who generate these funds to be available to continue our mission in Alabama," said Derek Alkire, NWTF district biologist for Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee. "The projects we are funding for 2026 will greatly impact the wild turkey in Alabama and contribute to our Habitat for the Hatch Initiative."
The Super Fund is a funding model through which NWTF volunteers raise money at banquets and other fundraisers, allocating a significant portion of those funds back into meaningful conservation and outreach projects in their respective states and beyond.
The Alabama NWTF State Chapter’s Super Fund contribution to conservation will be matched with more than $1,462,000 in partner or grant funds for the approved projects.
Between prescribed burning, invasive species removal and equipment purchases, the NWTF and its partners in Alabama are conservatively expecting to impact over 200,000 acres of habitat within Alabama in 2026.
The Alabama NWTF State Chapter also earmarked $60,000 to be used for conservation projects across the Southeast, as part of the NWTF’s Habitat for the Hatch Initiative. Habitat for the Hatch is a laser-focused initiative designed to create essential nesting habitat in close proximity to quality brood range. This initiative seeks to create 1 million acres that fit these specific criteria by 2033.
