Spandau’s Premier Field series is a lineup of straightforward, purpose-built shotguns for hunters and clay busters who value quality and reliability for a reasonable price.

Moving from Vermont back to South Carolina, I was happy to participate in a dove season again. Not only is there no dove season in the Green Mountain State, but as I hunted in South Carolina’s late December dove season in 70-degree weather, it was 20-something and snowy back in my hometown in Vermont. Carrying around a great over-and-under scattergun only made the sunshine and dove sound along the pine hedgerows that much more enjoyable.

Right out of the box, Spandau’s Premier Field 12-gauge shotgun with a 26-inch barrel and 3” chamber stood out as a gun ready for practical use to be put to work in the woods or on the course. After a quick assembly, the gun was already ready to roll with a cylinder choke in the bottom barrel and an improved-cylinder choke in the top. Also included with the firearm is a convenient case with a choke key and full, improved modified and modified chokes.

While there are no ornamental game scenes on the receiver sides, the Turkish walnut stock and forearm, coupled with the stainless-finished receiver sides and blued barrels, distinguish this gun as a quality piece.

Being a little too distracted by the beautiful Carolina December, I was still able to mount and swing the 6-poundish shotgun easily. It was light to swing but still felt substantially mounted. After shooting a couple handfuls of shells, the small-but-mighty recoil pad did the trick as my shoulder was not as sore as it has been in similar scenarios.

The mechanical triggers worked seamlessly, and the selectable firing order built into the safety is a nice feature to have when scenarios can change in the upland woods.

The shotgun uses a Benelli choke tube system, which allows versatility to a variety of aftermarket choke tubes.

Spandau offers its Premier Field series in a variety of options, from .410 to 12 gauge, and all can come with either a 26-inch barrel or a 28-inch barrel.

At a MSRP of $1,410.74, Spandau’s Premier Field Series is an excellent option for those seeking a quality performing over-and-under shotgun

Overall, the Spandau Premier Field Shotgun is a quality piece. And while I have a variety of quality over-and-under shotguns to choose from, I am taking out Spandau’s Premier Field gun to soak up the sun and enjoy the rest of this beautiful, end-of-year Carolina dove season.
